Fight Wrinkles - Six Tips for Younger Looking Skin

by Sally Valentine

Apply these few simple anti aging tips to your skincare regime. They'll help keep your skin wrinkle free and youthful for years to come.
Wrinkle Fighting Tip Number 1 - Exfoliate!

When you don't exfoliate regularly, a layer of dead skin cells builds up over your living, youthful skin cells. This hides the best-looking part of your skin and can cause a dry, scaly appearance as well as rashes and itching. So treat your skin to an exfoliating treatment at least once a day. You can scrub with a loofah or other rough sponge, either with or without specially formulating exfoliating compounds. Or invest in one of the new sonic exfoliating machines. They can give you a spa-level treatment every day.

Wrinkle Fighting Tip Number 2 - Eat Right!

Eating the right foods helps your body to keep your skin young and healthy. Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. They contain vital antioxidant compounds that help your skin fight off the aging influences in the environment. Aim for a minimum of five daily servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. Also consider taking a daily multivitamin for extra protection. And drink a cup or two of green tea every day. It contains antioxidant and anti aging compounds not found in most other sources.

Wrinkle Fighting Tip Number 3 - Wash Before Bed!

When you leave your makeup on overnight, you're asking for skin problems. Don't. It can clog your pores, leading to inflammation and blemishes. Your skin needs to breathe and to recover from the burden of being coated with makeup all day. Use a cleanser formulated for removing makeup. Or here's a great idea. Plan your exfoliating treatment (tip number 1) as part of your night-time routine. Your skin will thank you.

Wrinkle Fighting Tip Number 4 - Drink Water!

To keep your skin looking its best, you have to keep your body well hydrated. Did you know that most of us are partially dehydrated at any given time? Yes, it's because we don't drink enough water. Try for at least six glasses per day, more if you exercise regularly. Coffee and tea don't count because they actually are dehydrating. So are diet drinks with articifial sweeteners. Plain water is the best.

Wrinkle Fighting Tip Number 5 - Sleep Well!

Sometimes lack of sleep is obvious on our faces, like when you get those dark circles under your eyes. But the long-term effects of insufficient sleep are not so obvious. Most of us are chronically stressed and chronically short of sleep. If you're not getting eight hours sleep or more each night, you are short of sleep and you're depriving your skin of recovery time that it needs every day to stay youthful.

Wrinkle Fighting Tip Number 6 - Use a Good Wrinkle Cream!

Use a good anti aging wrinkle cream as your strongest defense against aging skin. Choose one product line and stick to it, as the effects of switching may irritate your skin. Medical science has recently discovered amazingly effective ingredients that can fight the aging process in your skin. Look for wrinkle cream products that contain advanced antioxidants such as Idebenone, D3PA, and Ascorbyl Palmitate. Also look for the firming ingredient Deanol. And some wrinkle cream manufacturers have introduced a safe, effective Botox alternative that doesn't require injections, Acetyl Hexapeptide-3.

Use these six tips regularly and you're sure to find your skin looking younger and staying younger.

Reasons for using eye creams

by Robert Baird

The eyes are one off the most significant organs of the body and they are also one among the sense organs. The eyes are responsible for providing human beings with the power to see and it is because of these pair of eyes that a human being is able to perceive the beauty of nature and its magnificence is all its colors. Therefore it is evident that the eyes are one of the most vital organs of the body and it is necessary to note here that since these are located on the external part of the body, they always run the risk of being injured or harmed easily. Therefore it is extremely important to ensure that the eyes and their adjoining areas are significantly protected.

It has been noticed, that dark circles, wrinkles and eye bags are some of the prevalent problems that most women post their twenties face. The increased stress factors that affect contemporary life takes its toll on the skin and the worst affected are the skin areas surrounding the eyes. Moreover, the skin around the eyes is very thin and do not possess any protective sheath like fats or oil glands. With the increase of age, elastin and collagen which are responsible for maintaining the tightness of the skin usually weaken in functioning thus leading to the formation of wrinkles.

Therefore under such condition, eye creams are considered at present to be the most viable option. It is advised by responsible medical practitioners nowadays that women can begin using the eye creams as early as in their early twenties to prevent early aging of the skin and premature wrinkle formation. The various eye creams that are available are made up of components which contain extra moisturizing properties and give protection to the skin around the eye and they also strengthen and support the various blood vessels that constitute the skin around the eye produce new cells.

In this way not only do these eye creams help in protecting the skin around the eye and provide moisture but at the same time it is also instrumental in removing dark circles, eye bags or puffiness around the eye and wrinkles. The most important component in most eye creams is known as Alpha Hydroxy Acid which facilitates the production of new cells removing the dead cells within the skin. Eye creams also aid in filing the skin with vitamin A and D which are lost by the skin due to exposure to the sun.

What Can I Do About My Wrinkles?

Submitted By: Richie Mont

Q: Although I'm a vegetarian, I'm on statin drugs because I had a very high cholesterol level. When I started a year ago, my face was totally unlined. Now my cholesterol level is right down but my cheeks have lost their fullness and wrinkles have set in. Do statins affect collagen? And is there anything you can suggest?

A: Fats are essential for our bodies. They provide us with an energy source, form the raw material for hormones, constitute cell membrane, act as insulation against heat loss, give contours, protect heart, kidneys, intestines and other organs from physical shock, and help to 'fix' organs in the chest and abdomen. Fats dissolve fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, which are important for keeping the skin firm and for lubricating joints; fats are also essential for eyesight, to fortify bones, regulate hormones and control the blood clotting system. So they're not all bad!

Cholesterol is an important fat: it is needed for cell growth and cellular division, and the maintenance of cell membrane. It's involved in the functioning of oestrogen, testosterone, the corticosteroid hormones produced by the adrenal glands, and cortisol, which controls calcium absorption.

Cholesterol is also important for the digestive process, as bile salts are derived from it.

Cholesterol is either absorbed from your diet (particularly egg yolks, cream and meat) or synthesised by the liver. Usually genetic factors keep cholesterol within acceptable bounds. So if you have a high cholesterol level, controlling your dietary sources may not be enough to lower it.

Because high cholesterol levels lead to an increased risk of heart and/or vascular disease, doctors prescribed statins to reduce them. Statins have many side effects, from tingling in the body to skin sagging problems, as in your case. They don't affect collagen but I think your problem is due to the drugs. Cholesterol is vital for sealing moisture into the skin and the elasticity of skin depends on it. The fat layer under the skin makes the surface smooth; the drugs have flushed that out, so wrinkles have appeared.

Vegetarians are often deficient in the fat-soluble vitamins I've listed above.

Vitamin E particularly helps skin texture and the lack of it can contribute to wrinkling.

Now that your cholesterol level is down, I suggest you ask your doctor if it's possible to reduce your dosage of statins. He or she may agree if you undertake to do everything you can to control your cholesterol level naturally. (Always let your doctor know about other measures that you are taking.) . Eat lots of fresh non-citrus fruit and vegetables, oats and garlic; drink fresh pomegranate juice and make a daily infusion of one teaspoonful of fenugreek seeds in a mug of boiling water, leave to soak for ten minutes or more, then strain and drink.

. Exclude fried food, peanut butter, nuts and seeds, avocado, crisps, cakes, biscuits, coconut milk and (for non-vegetarians) cream, ice cream, cheese, butter, curries.

. Don't snack on oily, fatty and/or processed foods. Take care to make energising, balanced meals. If you can include grilled fish and chicken, it will help you not to snack.

. If you eat bread, oatcakes, rice cakes or crispbread, top them with a little manuka honey or pure fruit preserves instead of butter or cheese.

. You must get out every day for at least 30 to 60 minutes in the fresh air, and do moderate exercise you enjoy. Yoga is always helpful: I recommend therapeutic Iyengar yoga.

. Take Bioenergy (Biotique, Pounds 12 for 120 tablets) or Ashwagandha (Himalaya, Pounds 10 for 60 capsules): one twice daily, to help keep cholesterol levels balanced, especially if you are trying to come off the statins.

Here are my suggestions Diet Supplements For your skin . In the morning, massage Saffron Dew Youth Cream (Biotique, Pounds 8 for 65g) upwards into the skin. Massage for five minutes each day for a month, then twice a week until the skin texture improves.

. At bedtime, massage pure almond oil into your face for five minutes. Wipe any excess away using a towel dipped into hot water with a few drops of fresh lime in it.

. Buy an aloe vera plant and cut off a quarter-inch piece of the leaf, then squeeze out the sticky juice and apply it to your skin. This is the best treatment you can put on your face, either to tone and moisturise or to treat acne, eczema or any skin rash.

Exercise . Take aloe vera capsules (Vega, Pounds 7 for 60): one twice daily for three months.

Beauty tips for pregnant moms-to-be. How to be pregnant and beautiful.

by Beverly Johnson

Pregnancy can be an exciting time of wonder and discovery.
Your body starts doing all sorts of amazing things, like growing long beautiful nails and luxurious hair (a by-product of hormones and prenatal vitamins.)

And, along with a rapidly expanding waist line, comes new skin care challenges and concerns, like dark spots, blotchy skin and pimples, and serious concerns about the safety of certain beauty procedures.

Before you head back to your salon for a root touch up or to your local spa to enjoy another pampering day of beauty, you'll want to read our quick run down on safety issues involved in taking care of your skin while pregnant.

(You should always consult your obstetrician or primary care physician for their opinion, before undergoing any type of beauty care or dental procedure during your pregnancy.)

1.) Hair dye, or root touch up:

If you are planning to get pregnant, you may be able to spare yourself some of the approaching hair care angst and controversy by having it dyed back to its natural color. That way roots won't show at all.

While some doctor's worry that the chemicals contained in the dye solution may enter the blood stream through the scalp, most consider highlights to be alright.

Either way, go for a vegetable based dye solution that will contain fewer harsh chemicals, and work in a well ventilated area.

Are wrinkle creams safe during pregnancy?

Some recent studies have linked use of Retin A or Retinol (vitamin A) based products with abnormalities in the unborn baby.

Instead, opt for skin creams, that employ Alpha Hydroxy acids (AHA), Vitamin C or E, to soften fine lines, and retexturize skin.

What can I do to make sure that I don't get stretch marks?

The more weight you gain, especially in the stomach area, the more your skin will have to stretch.

If skin stretches beyond its capacity, you will begin to see tiny pinkish or purple stretch marks.

Talk to your ob/gyn about the maximum weight you should gain for your unborn baby's health and try to stay within that limit.

Like taxxes, stretch marks may be unavoidable.

However you can minimize their appearance with daily applications of cocoa butter creams.

Until then, you may find that these marks (which usually fade in time) are easily covered by Derma-blend (or other body make up) or sunless tanner.

Should I polish my nails or go natural?

It may be ok to indulge in the occasional nail touch up, since only tiny amounts of formaldehyde and other otherwise toxic chemicals are absorbed by the body through the nail bed during the manicure process.

This makes manicures and pedicures a safe bet for most pregnant moms.

For extra sanitary measures, provide your own bottle of nail color (that noone else has had access to) and make sure that your nail tech uses steralized or disposable nail care implements.

What about massages? Are they safe, during pregnancy?

Taking time out for a much needed neck or back massage may be an essential beauty luxury during the pregnancy months, considering that it can help relieve tension, stress and pains associated with pregnancy.

Just be sure to tell your massage therapist that you are pregnant so she can make accomodations for your growing belly.

It's generally advisable to avoid deep tissue massage, shiatsu and reflexology/accupressure type massages or anything that focuses on applying pressure to the abdomen, though, as they may interfere with the unborn baby's development.

What about facials and other luxury spa treatments?

Mild exfoliating, non-chemical facials and pore treatments are considered safe.

However, you'll want to avoid body wraps, steam room sauna's, immersing yourself in warm mud bath, or any treatment that might raise your body's temperature, and cause harm to your baby.

Can I use a lightening cream to get rid of my Malasma and dark spots?

Pregnancy hormones may cause your skin to darken or tan in some areas, producing a spotty effect. This condition is known as Melasma and usually goes away shortly after giving birth.

You may find that you can simply hide dark patches with foundation or concealer, without exposing your baby to any risk, at all.

Some old wives tales suggest that lemons (which contain vitamin C and ascorbic acid, a natural skin peel) and buttermilk may help lighten skin naturally.

Treatment options will increase once your baby is born and the dark spots begin to fade on their own.

Pimples and pregnancy.

Some pregnant women complain that they experience more acne like symptons, including pimples.

Changes in hormones may cause oil glands (sebaceous glands) to go into overdrive and produce excess oils.

This can lead to clogged pores and severe break outs on face, shoulders, back and everywhere in between.

While there is no real oily skin cure, you will find some relief by adopting a regular daily cleansing and toning routine.

Cetaphil or other mild facial cleanser will remove excess oils without causing irritations.

Avoid heavy moisturizers that only add to the problem.

Remove gym clothes immediately after working out, and shower as soon as possible, to keep sweat and dirt from getting into your skin.

Help for extra dry skin during pregnancy.

If your skin or lips become overly parched or dried during pregnancy, it may be a sign that you are not getting enough water during the day.

Dry skin wrinkles easily, so you'll want to handle the problem quickly.

You can get instant relief from Sahara dry skin with rich emollient moisturizers like Shea Body Butters.

Use a loofah or exfoliating body puff to remove dry flaky skin cells.

And, apply baby oil or body lotion to your skin immediately after stepping out of the shower, but before you dry off.

More than anyone else, Moms, and moms to be deserve to be pampered and primped, too!

After you become a new mom you'll find that your skin undergoes even more drastic changes.

Late nights spent with a crying baby, lack of sleep, and changes in hormones may leave your skin looking lifeless and dull.

While it will be tempting to ignore your own personal beauty care needs, during and after pregnancy, you'll find that you have a fresher more revived outlook on life and motherhood when you simply take a few moments to indulge your inner beauty diva daily.

Lost and Found: The Miracle of Facial Rejuvenation

by Suzanne Macguire

What made the jealous step mother of Snow White resort to evil ways? It was the desire to look beautiful! Times have changed but the basic instinct of women to look desirable and attractive have remained the same. Fortunately, unlike the jealous mother of the fairy tale, we do not have to resort to such dreadful ways to look fair. Big dark eyes, high cheek bones, glowing skin, pouting lips, shining teeth- if you are lucky enough to possess these features, no wonder you are beautiful! But the growing effects of age slowly deprive you of your beauty, making you appear older and less attractive.

Research suggests that women above 27 years of age are distressed by the ill-effects of ageing- wrinkles under the eyes, lusterless cheeks, excessive pigmentation, dry and saggy skin, and much more. Thanks to the latest developments in the field of medical science, there is now a possibility of overcoming every hurdle on your way to regain your flawless striking beauty that once captured the attention of millions!

No magic potion but facial rejuvenation or a cosmetic procedure is the solution to your age-affected facial appearance. For clarification, facial rejuvenation refers to a set of surgical procedures aimed at restoring facial geometry and skin appearance which are enjoyed by the young, by using a combination of brow lift, elimination of eye bags, eyelids lift, elimination of senile spots, skin aging, facial sagging and wrinkles. This is achieved through a face lift and rhytidectomy and physical or chemical peeling, chin lift (reduction of double chin), restoration of facial hairline, etc. These are some of the basic procedures to restore the lost glow of your skin and gradually help you regain your beautiful self.

The decaying effect of age becomes evident with the facial muscles losing their elasticity and the loss of bone tissues around the mid-face area and lower orbits of the nose. Fine lines appear below the eyes and the skin begins to sag. The effect of age is noticeable earlier in women than in men which accounts for the greater percentage of women taking recourse to facial rejuvenation than men.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 114,000 facelifts and nearly 55,000 forehead lifts were performed in the USA in 2004, the majority on women. This comes as no surprise as women are more conscious of their appearance and desire to be admired throughout their lives. However, current trends now suggest the increasing consciousness of good looks in men too. One of the possible reasons for this trend is the contribution of mass media and fashion. Besides, increasing affluence and good health of a majority of the population at older ages, and decreasing cost of surgery have made it possible for more and more people to opt for facial rejuvenation.

There are several procedures associated with facial rejuvenation- plastic surgery, blackhead removal, dentistry, wrinkle treatment, to name a few. Each treatment will be selected based on the needs of the clients. Besides, common skin problems like acne, pigmentation, excessive facial hair, acne scar, and rosacea are taken care of with full effect. All you need is to approach an established medical organisation for your cosmetic treatment. Once the treatment is done accordingly, all skin related issues will undoubtedly improve. With facial rejuvenation, you can actually behold a miracle, where your old age takes a back seat and youthful beauty shines for the years to come!

Want To Reverse Wrinkles? Then Use These Top 6 Sun Protection Tips

by Marcus Ryan

Want to look years younger than your age? Then you've got to now how to properly protect yourself from the sun. There are specific tips to prevent solar skin damage, and when you know them, you've got an unfair advantage when it comes to looking younger.
The cardinal rule for avoiding damage to your skin from sun exposure, regardless of your age, is to simply protect yourself in every way possible from the sun's ultraviolet rays. The best way to do that is, of course, to simply stay out of the sun, but that's not always an option. So you should safeguard your skin with a sunscreen of the appropriate strength, and with protective apparel.

The sun's ultraviolet rays are one of the biggest factors in causing skin to age prematurely, and in the occurrence of skin cancer. But you can drastically reduce the chances of either, if you simply follow a few suggestions which will keep you skin looking young.

Many people spend too much time in the sun without taking proper precautionary measures, under the mistaken impression that using a good wrinkle cream will let them atone for their mistakes. But wrinkle creams can only do so much, and will have as much as they can handle taking care of your existing signs of aging without your bringing new ones on board every time you leave the house in daylight.

What do you need to do to keep the sun from ruining your skin?

Step 1

The biggest step you can take toward a wrinkle free skin is to stay out of the sunlight during its peak hours, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. It's a far more effective way to save your skin by arranging your schedule so that your outdoor time is earlier or later in the day, than to slap on a sunscreen and hope for the best.

Step 2

If you do have to spend time in the sun, the second suggestion which you should heed is to wear a hat. And forget about looking cool by grabbing a baseball cap and turning it backwards, where its bill does absolutely nothing to shield your face. Even if you cringe at the sight of hats, wear a hat.

And make sure that the hat you choose has a brim wide enough to shade you entire face--forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, and neck. A wide brimmed gardening hat or beach hat; a cowboy hat; or a panama is all designed to protect their wearers from the sun.

Step 3

Third, don't stop with the hat. You need to wear clothes which will provide sun protection; most dry clothiers have an SPF rating of from 6 to 15, but that can drop below 5 if they become wet. If you're someone whose work or outdoor activities force you to be out in the heat of the day, you can find apparel from manufacturers like Solumbra and Solarweave with an SPF rating of 30 and up.

The minimum you should do is wear a long sleeved shirt and long pants whenever you are out in the sun.

Step 4

Finally, there are sunscreens, but they will protect you adequately only if you understand what kinds to get, and how and when to apply them. You need a sunscreen which will block both UVA and UVB rays, and you will have to apply it thickly enough to get the full benefit of its SPF rating.

Research has shown that most people use a layer of sunscreen only 20% as thick as it should be to provide maximum protection. So even if you hate the greasy feel and strong scent of sunscreen, you will have to slather it on.

Step 5

And when you use your sunscreen is as important as how much of it you use. Studies from the UK indicate that sunscreen should first be applied between fifteen and thirty minutes before you go outside, and again fifteen to thirty minutes after. You should also reapply it after swimming, toweling off, or participating in any activities which cause heavy perspiration.

Step 6

But the easiest, and most effective, way for you to prevent the sun from damaging your skin is to prevent the sun's rays from coming anywhere near it. If you must venture out when the sun is at its peak, cover yourself with sunscreen and appropriate clothing, and top off your ensemble with a broad-brimmed hat.

An ounce of prevention, as they say, is worth a pound of (wrinkle cream) cure, and with the best wrinkle creams being quite expensive, you can save your money as well as your skin by preventing sun damage.

Now you know what to do, so why not take the time to find the hat and sunscreen which will let you put your anti-sun aging plans to work?
